The Client’s Challenge:

Find an internal replacement to a top job-quick!

Declining performance in a small but promising business created an urgent need for a new president from within.  However, the potential successors were at least two years from being ready.

 

What We Did:

We worked with the group president to define the business challenges as well as the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in the top role of the business at risk. We used assessment surveys and interviews to determine the candidates’ readiness against the specs and the strongest candidate who could be developed the fastest. With carefully planned on the job projects and accelerated coaching from the boss and our firm, we were able to place a person in the top job in 8 mos. The candidate transitioned into the role successfully and initiated changes to the business that positioned it for renewed growth.

 


The Client’s Challenge:

Save a high potential leader who was failing in a new job.   The leader was successful and liked in the past.  However, the leader’s peers and direct reports were finding the person “hard to work with.” The performance and credibility of the leader and the new team were plummeting.

 

What We Did:

We conducted a comprehensive leadership assessment of the individual, including feedback from her direct reports, boss, peers and internal customers. We discovered they were overusing the strengths that made therm successful in past roles with smaller and more technically-oriented but were not a fit for the current job.  We identified the underused skills needed for success on the current job and created a plan by which the boss and colleagues were actively engaged to give the leader feedback which helped hem adjust quickly.  Follow up feedback has been strong and positive since the intervention.
